2nd Annual Symposium Announced for August 7-8, 2024
Approaches to Multispecies Modeling to Inform and Benefit Fisheries Management
The second joint symposium of the Quantitative Fisheries Center (QFC) and Centre for Ecosystem Management (CEM) will be held at Michigan State University on August 7-8, 2024. The symposium aims to expose Great Lakes fisheries managers and biologists to various approaches (e.g., single species with add-ons, models of intermediate complexity, energy flow models) used for multispecies assessment and their use to inform fishery management decisions. Keynote speakers will give oral presentations on different approaches to multi-species assessment in both freshwater and marine systems, followed by a half-day discussion focused on future applications in the Great Lakes.
Keynote Speakers include:
Dr. Daniel Howell – Institute of Marine Fisheries Research, Bergen Norway - Past Chair of ICES Working Group on Multispecies Assessment Methods
Dr. Melissa Haltuch – NOAA Alaska Fisheries Science Center, Seattle, WA - Status of Stocks and Multispecies Assessments Program Manager
Dr. David Chagaris – Research Associate Professor, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL - specializing in ecosystem-based approaches that complement single-species assessment and management framework
In-person attendance is limited to invitation only, however, others are welcome to join in virtually. Please RSVP via email to Michelle Chester (blockmi3@msu.edu).
